Frequently asked questions

What are pharma engineering services?
Pharma engineering services cover the planning, design, installation, commissioning, qualification, and validation of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, utilities, cleanrooms, and process systems. The goal is simple, really get the plant built right the first time, so it’s already operating in compliance with GMP from day one rather than chasing compliance after the fact.
GMP facility design is the discipline that involves designing manufacturing layouts, material and personnel flows, and infrastructure to meet the requirements of the WHO, FDA, EU GMP, and PIC/S. That spans sterile facilities, OSD facilities, API plants, warehouses, and laboratories, pretty much the whole footprint of a pharma site.
Commissioning is the process of confirming that equipment and utilities are installed and function as intended. Qualification, IQ, OQ, PQ come next, and it’s what gives you documented evidence that everything performs consistently within spec. Put together, that’s the objective proof regulators need to see that a facility is genuinely fit for GMP manufacturing.
HVAC qualification is the documented process of verifying that air handling units, pressure cascades, and environmental controls are designed, installed, and operated in a way that meets ISO classification, contamination control, and product protection requirements. It happens through four stages: DQ, IQ, OQ, and PQ.
Utility validation tests whether purified water, WFI, clean steam, compressed air, nitrogen, and vacuum systems are producing the necessary quality and reliability required for GxP manufacturing. The qualification process and continued performance monitoring ensure this.
Qualification confirms that equipment or systems are installed correctly and work as intended (covering stages like IQ, OQ, PQ). Validation confirms that a process or method consistently delivers results meeting set specifications. Simply put, qualification focuses on the equipment, while validation focuses on the process running on it — and qualification usually comes first.
Cleanrooms are used in order to control particulate, microbial, and pressure conditions that can affect the product and its safety, eventually for the patients. Improper design and unqualification of cleanrooms result in higher risks of contamination and usually lead to the most frequent regulatory findings.
We do. QIS supports the full facility lifecycle — concept, feasibility, facility design, installation oversight, commissioning, qualification, and operational handover — and we stay on as a single accountable engineering partner the whole way through.
We support pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology, medical devices, vaccines, cell & gene therapy, nutraceuticals, CMOs, CDMOs, life sciences, and research laboratories.
